Het smeltpunt van 1,2-benzisothiazool-3-on is 154-158°C, het kookpunt is 204,5°C bij 760 mmHg, de dichtheid is 1,367 g/cm³, en het vlampunt is 77,5°C. Het is een wit of lichtgeel poeder dat oplosbaar is in heet water en sommige organische oplosmiddelen, zoals ethanol, ethyleenglycol, etc.

 

Toepassingen:

 

‌1,2-Benzisothiazool-3-on (kortweg BIT) is een belangrijk industrieel bacteriedodend middel, conserveermiddel en enzymremmer. Het heeft een uitstekend remmend effect op de groei van schimmels, algen en andere micro-organismen in organische media.
