Inleiding:
Methyleenblauw is een fenothiazinezout met een donkergroene bronzen kristallijne of poederachtige verschijning, oplosbaar in water en ethanol. Methyleenblauw is stabiel in de lucht en de waterige oplossing is alkalisch en giftig.
Toepassingen:
Bacteriële kleuring. Gemengde indicator voor biochemische serumproteïnetest. Bereid kleuroplossing voor afgestoten celtest. Bereid alkalische methyleenblauw kleuroplossing. Redox-indicator. Bepaling van kwik en tin. Reductietitreermiddel, gebruikt om perchloraat en rhenaat te precipiteren. Fotometrische bepaling van selenium en molybdeen met anderen. Gebruikt als redox-indicator, adsorptie-indicator en biologische kleurstof. Voornamelijk gebruikt voor het verven van katoen, acrylvezel, linnen, zijde, papier, ook gebruikt voor het kleuren van bamboe en hout en voor het maken van inkt en lake, en kan ook worden gebruikt voor het verven van biologische bacteriën.
