1. Hoofdzakelijk gebruikt als fixatiemiddel
2. Gebruikt als toevoeging voor galvaniseerbaden, looimiddel voor leer, dispergeermiddel voor hogetemperatuurverven van disperseerbare kleurstof, versnellingsmiddel voor fenolharsverharding en vlamvertrager voor hars
3. Gebruikt als tussenproduct voor pesticiden, kleurstoffen en hulpstoffen
4. Als vervanging voor bisphenol A kan het worden gebruikt als grondstof voor polycarbonaat, epoxyhars, polyester en fenolhars.
5. Gebruikt als kleurend fotografisch materiaal, contrastversterker, thermosensitief opnamemateriaal (kleurontwikkelaar), dagelijkse oppervlakteactieve stof en hoogwaardig deodorant
