Introduction:
Polymerisation inhibitor 701, also known as nitroxyl radical piperidine alcohol, exhibits superior polymerisation inhibition properties compared to phenolic, aromatic amine, ethe, quinone, and nitro compounds. It can replace the environmentally harmful hydroquinone, demonstrating approximately four times the polymerisation inhibition efficacy of hydroquinone.
Uses:

Polymerisation inhibitor 701 may serve as a spin label for studying biological compounds and polymers; as a spin labelling reagent for identifying NK1 receptor antagonist and agonist binding sites; and for determining reactive oxygen species generation in myocardium via electron spin resonance spectroscopy. TEMPOL protects cells overexpressing CYP2E1 from toxic damage by arachidonic acid; serves as a precursor for fluoromarked TEMPO derivatives via a ‘click’ reaction involving derivatisation with TEMPO propyne r followed by reaction with fluorinated azide; functions as a highly efficient catalyst in the bleach oxidation of alcohols.
