Leather Chemical N,N'-Methylenebisacrylamide MBA CAS 110-26-9 Finishing Crosslinker Powder

A leather finish has to survive repeated flexing at minus ten degrees, resist wet rub, stay soft to the hand and avoid yellowing in storage, which is a demanding combination for a water based acrylic top coat. Crosslinking the binder with MBA at 0.3 to 1 percent on dry binder raises film cohesion and adhesion to the grain without turning the finish stiff, because the short rigid crosslink bridges create tight local networks rather than a dense global one.

The same chemistry is used in paper and board coating and in textile back coating where wet pick resistance matters. Our finishing grade is specified for low free monomer, narrow particle size and consistent reactivity, so formulators can set a cure schedule once and keep it across deliveries instead of chasing batch to batch differences in film hardness.

• Improved wet rub resistance: higher crosslink density reduces colour transfer and surface wear in the wet rub test

• Non yellowing: films retain colour neutrality through accelerated ageing, important for white and pastel leathers
• Low free monomer: 0.1% maximum, aligned with restricted substance limits in footwear and automotive leather supply chains

Applications include water based acrylic and polyurethane top coats for upholstery, footwear and automotive leather, base coat adhesion promoters, paper and board coating binders, textile back coating where wet rub resistance is specified, and printing ink binders requiring film toughness.

For evaluation we recommend three trials at 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 percent on dry binder, cured under the plant's existing conditions, followed by flex, wet rub and yellowing tests. Our technical note describes the standard test protocols so results are comparable with our reference data.

A Certificate of Analysis accompanies each lot, reporting assay, moisture, residual acrylamide, pH of a 1 percent solution and appearance. Retained samples are stored for 18 months, and we can provide restricted substance declarations covering REACH SVHC and the main footwear RSL lists on request.

We warrant the product for 12 months from shipment when stored as recommended. Any batch outside specification is replaced or credited after joint verification against the retained sample.

Supplied in 25 kg fibre drums with double polyethylene liner for production use, or 1 kg and 5 kg foil bags for laboratory trials. Each pack is labelled with lot number, net weight, CAS number, production date and storage guidance in English.
