Flavor Carrier Benzyl Benzoate CAS 120-51-4 FEMA 2138 Food Grade Colorless Liquid

Benzyl benzoate (CAS 120-51-4) is listed as FEMA 2138 and used in food as a flavour ingredient and as a carrier solvent for flavour concentrates, particularly where a low volatility, neutral tasting vehicle is needed to hold a blend together through baking or pasteurisation. It has a mild balsamic character of its own, so the grade supplied to flavour houses must be clean enough that no benzaldehyde or solvent note carries through to the finished product.

Our food grade is produced from distilled ester and released against the Food Chemicals Codex monograph, with limits on heavy metals, arsenic and lead in addition to the usual assay and colour parameters. Production, packing and storage follow a food safety management system based on HACCP principles, and each lot is accompanied by a specification sheet, Certificate of Analysis and allergen statement for the flavour house's own vendor qualification file.

Used as a carrier solvent and fixative in beverage, bakery, confectionery and chewing gum flavours, as a diluent for flavour concentrates before spray drying or encapsulation, and as a component of fruit and spice flavour compositions where its balsamic note supports the profile.

Typical use in a flavour concentrate is 5 to 20 percent of the formula, with the finished food application normally carrying well under 100 ppm of the ester. Because the boiling point exceeds 300 degrees C, it should be blended at ambient temperature and added late in the compounding sequence to avoid loss of more volatile top notes.

Food grade material is packed in new 25 kg HDPE drums with tamper evident seals, nitrogen blanketed, and in 5 kg food grade jerry cans for pilot work. Each container carries lot number, net weight, CAS number, production and best before date, and the food grade designation clearly on the label.

Store between 5 and 30 degrees C in a sealed container away from strong odours, light and oxidisers. Dedicated food grade transport is arranged where required, and shipments leave Shanghai within 7 to 15 working days with COA, specification and allergen statement attached.

The Certificate of Analysis reports assay, colour, benzaldehyde, water, acidity, heavy metals, arsenic and lead, measured in our own laboratory on calibrated instruments. A retention sample of 500 g from each lot is kept for 24 months for traceability.

We issue a product specification sheet, allergen declaration, GMO and BSE statement, Halal and Kosher certificates on request, and a food safety declaration covering the HACCP based production system. Third party audits by SGS or Intertek can be arranged for customers who require them.
