Microencapsulated ARA Powder 10% CAS 506-32-1 Infant Nutrition White Free Flowing Powder

Arachidonic acid (CAS 506-32-1) in its free oil form is difficult to handle in a dry blending plant: it is sticky, oxygen sensitive and tends to migrate into packaging. Microencapsulation solves this by dispersing the oil as fine droplets inside a carbohydrate and protein wall, then spray drying to a free flowing powder that behaves like any other infant formula ingredient on the weighing and blending line.

This 10 percent grade is designed for dry blending into infant formula, follow-on formula and nutritional powders. The wall system is built on octenyl succinic anhydride modified starch with a protein co film, which gives good emulsification during spray drying and a low surface oil content in the finished particle, and that low surface oil is precisely what keeps peroxide value under control during two years of ambient storage.

Used in infant formula, follow-on formula, growing up milk powders, and in sachet or stick pack nutritional supplements for children and pregnant women. A typical addition is 0.3 to 0.6 percent of the powder in the finished formula, blended with a matching DHA powder to reach the intended ARA to DHA ratio.

The powder is added in the dry blending stage after all heat treatment steps, which protects the fatty acid from thermal damage. Pre blending with an equal weight of maltodextrin or lactose improves distribution in small batch production, and the blend should be packed under nitrogen with a moisture barrier laminate to preserve the shelf life.

Packed in 1 kg aluminium foil bags with desiccant for laboratory work, 5 kg cartons for pilot runs and 20 kg fibre drums with double polyethylene liner for production, all nitrogen flushed. Labels record lot number, ARA content, peroxide value at release, wall material and storage conditions.

Store below 25 degrees C in a dry warehouse away from strong odours; the powder is not damaged by short excursions to 30 degrees C but prolonged heat accelerates oxidation. Shipments leave within 7 to 15 working days with COA, specification sheet and allergen declaration.

Each lot is released with a Certificate of Analysis reporting ARA content, surface oil, peroxide value, moisture, particle size, heavy metals and microbiological counts, plus the full fatty acid profile by GC. A 200 g retention sample is kept for 24 months.
