Agrochemical Intermediate 2-Chlorobenzaldehyde CAS 89-98-5 Fungicide Synthesis Grade Liquid

In crop protection chemistry 2-chlorobenzaldehyde (CAS 89-98-5) is used to build the ortho chlorophenyl fragment that appears in several fungicide and herbicide families, typically through condensation with an amine, a hydrazine or an active methylene compound. Those reactions are run at ton scale in multipurpose plants, so the two things a formulation or synthesis plant needs from the aldehyde are a consistent assay and a supply that does not change specification between campaigns.

Our agrochemical grade is a distilled product specified at 99.0 percent minimum with tight limits on acidity and water, because residual acid catalyses self condensation during storage and turns a clear liquid into a dark, resinous product. Drums are filled under nitrogen and dispatched in the order they were produced, so a customer running a campaign three months later still receives material with the same reactivity and colour as the qualification batch.

Used in the synthesis of fungicidal and herbicidal active ingredients containing an ortho chlorophenyl moiety, in the preparation of plant growth regulator intermediates, and as a building block for hydrazone and oxime chemistry in agrochemical process development.

Charge the aldehyde into the reactor before the amine or hydrazine to keep the aldehyde in excess during addition, and maintain the reaction temperature below 60 degrees C unless the route specifies otherwise. Drums should be blanketed with nitrogen after partial use; our technical note summarises storage stability data over 12 months at 25 and 40 degrees C.

Available in 25 kg plastic drums for pilot scale, 250 kg iron drums with phenolic epoxy lining for production, and 1000 kg IBC tanks where the plant has bulk storage. All packaging is nitrogen blanketed and labelled with lot number, assay, production date and the applicable GHS hazard symbols.

The product is an irritant and a lachrymator, so unloading should be done with local exhaust ventilation and suitable PPE. Store below 30 degrees C away from oxidisers, strong bases and sources of ignition; shipments leave Shanghai within 7 to 15 working days with complete export documentation.

A Certificate of Analysis accompanies every lot, reporting assay, isomer content, free acid, water, colour and density, with the GC chromatogram attached. Retention samples are kept for 18 months at ambient temperature in sealed amber glass.
