Crystallized 2-Chlorobenzaldehyde CAS 89-98-5 Solid Grade White Crystals 99.5% Purity

2-Chlorobenzaldehyde (CAS 89-98-5) melts between 9 and 11 degrees C, which means that in winter, or in an unheated container, a drum of the liquid grade can arrive as a block of crystals. For buyers in cold climates and for plants that prefer to dose a solid, we supply the material deliberately crystallised and packed as white crystals, so handling is predictable rather than dependent on the weather.

The crystallised product is a purified fraction: crystallisation rejects the coloured oxidation products and most of the residual acid that remain in the liquid, so this grade typically shows a better colour and a lower acid value than a single distilled liquid, even at the same assay. Crystals are packed in double lined drums with a desiccant sachet and can be melted in a heated store or charged directly to a reactor where the process permits.

Used wherever a plant prefers a solid charge or where ambient transport temperatures are below the melting point: pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediate synthesis, dye and pigment routes, and brightener manufacture in cold climate markets.

The material can be melted in a heated store at 30 to 35 degrees C before charging, or added as crystals to a reactor where the solvent will dissolve it at the reaction temperature. Do not heat above 40 degrees C for long periods, since the aldehyde oxidises faster in the liquid state; our handling note gives recommended melt times and maximum hold temperatures.

Packed in 25 kg drums with double polyethylene liner and a desiccant sachet, and 250 kg iron drums with phenolic epoxy lining for bulk. Labels record lot number, assay, melting point, production date and storage temperature.

Store between 5 and 20 degrees C in a sealed container away from light and moisture; the material may melt partially in a warm warehouse and resolidify, which is acceptable provided the drum remains sealed. Shipments leave within 7 to 15 working days.

Each batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis reporting assay, melting point, acidity, water, chlorobenzoic acid, colour of melt and the GC chromatogram. A 200 g retention sample is stored for 24 months.
