Sodium Salt NAPE 14 Sulfate 70% CAS 120478-49-1 Alkaline Zinc Wetting Agent

Alkaline non cyanide zinc baths run hot, strongly alkaline and full of complexing agents, and most surfactants either salt out or hydrolyse in that environment. The sodium salt of a fourteen mole nonylphenol ethoxylate sulfate holds its surface activity at pH above 13 and at 25 to 35 degrees C, which is why it is a standard wetting and levelling component in alkaline zinc systems for rack and barrel plating.

The 70 percent version balances active content against handling: it pours easily at ambient temperature, dissolves quickly in the bath without lumps, and is less viscous than the 90 percent concentrate, so a plating shop can dose it with a simple drum pump. It contains no ammonium ion, which keeps the bath free of ammonia odour and reduces the load on the effluent treatment plant.

Used in alkaline non cyanide zinc plating for rack and barrel work, in zinc iron alkaline systems, and as a wetting agent in alkaline cleaners where a low foam anionic surfactant is required at high pH.

Dosage in a working bath is normally 1 to 3 g per litre, added as a dilute solution rather than neat to avoid localised precipitation in hard water. Our technical note gives a Hull cell series showing coverage and brightness against surfactant concentration, and recommends the addition rate for rack versus barrel operation.

Packed in 25 kg HDPE jerry cans, 200 kg plastic drums and 1000 kg IBC tanks, all sealed and labelled with lot number, active content, pH and production date. The product is compatible with standard drum pumps and dosing skids.

Store between 5 and 35 degrees C, protected from frost and direct sunlight. If the product separates in cold storage, warm to 30 degrees C and stir before use. Shipments leave within 7 to 15 working days with COA and safety data sheet.

The Certificate of Analysis reports active content, pH, cloud point, unsulfated matter, free nonylphenol, sodium sulfate, density and viscosity, plus an alkali stability test at pH 14 for 48 hours at 40 degrees C. A 250 g retention sample is held for 18 months.
