High Cloud Point NAPE 20 EO Sulfate CAS 120478-49-1 Hot Electrolyte Surfactant

Every ethoxylate has a cloud point, the temperature above which it separates from solution and stops doing its job. In hot electrolytes, high temperature cleaning baths and processes running above 60 degrees C, a standard fourteen mole sulfate clouds out precisely when it is needed most, and the operator compensates by overdosing, which produces foam and residue instead of performance.

This twenty mole ethoxylate sulfate pushes the cloud point above 70 degrees C in the standard butyl diglycol test and keeps the molecule in solution in hot, high electrolyte baths. The longer polyethylene oxide chain also improves tolerance to calcium and to high ionic strength, so the same surfactant works in hard process water without precipitation and without a chelating agent in the formulation.

Used in high temperature alkaline cleaning, in hot phosphating and conversion coating baths, in high chloride zinc and zinc alloy plating at elevated temperature, and in industrial processes where a surfactant must remain soluble above 60 degrees C.

Typical dosage is 1 to 4 g per litre depending on soil load and temperature. Because the cloud point is high, the surfactant continues to act after the bath has been heated, which usually allows a 20 to 30 percent reduction in dose compared with a standard grade; our technical note gives the comparison data.

Packed in 25 kg jerry cans, 200 kg plastic drums and 1000 kg IBC tanks, sealed and labelled with lot number, EO number, cloud point and production date.

Store between 5 and 35 degrees C, protected from frost and light. The product is slightly more viscous than standard NAPE grades at low temperature; warm to 30 degrees C before pumping in cold weather. Shipments leave within 7 to 15 working days.

A Certificate of Analysis accompanies every lot, reporting active content, EO units, cloud point in BDG and in 10 percent NaCl, unsulfated matter, free nonylphenol, density and hard water stability. A 250 g retention sample is held for 24 months.
