Product Description

Valerophenone (CAS 1009-14-9) carries a green, floral, slightly jasmine like odour with a ketonic freshness that perfumers use to lift floral accords and to add a natural, slightly waxy quality to white flower compositions. It is a moderately volatile liquid with good substantivity on fabric and skin, and it blends well with linalool, methyl dihydrojasmonate and the salicylates.

For perfumery the analytical targets are different from an industrial grade. Colour has to be essentially water white so a clear fine fragrance stays clear, and the odour has to be free of the acetophenone and butyric notes that come from incomplete reaction, because a fraction of a percent of those materials is detectable in a finished perfume even when the GC assay is nominally on specification.

Key Features
  • Green floral jasmine nuance: lifts white flower accords and adds freshness without dominating the top note
  • Odour screened by trained panel: each lot is evaluated for ketonic, butyric and solvent off notes before release
  • Colour 10 APHA maximum: clear fine fragrance concentrates stay visually water white
  • Good substantivity: detectable on fabric and skin hours after application, useful in functional perfumery
  • Wide compatibility: blends with floral, woody and citrus accords and with common fragrance solvents
  • Perfumery documentation: IFRA relevant component listing and allergen statement issued with each delivery

Applications and Handling Notes

Used in fine fragrance and functional perfumery as a floral modifier, typically at 0.5 to 4 percent of the concentrate, and in candle and home care fragrances where its substantivity and low discolouration are valuable.

Add the material in the heart of the formula with the other florals rather than in the top note, and evaluate after 24 hours of maceration since the ketonic freshness softens with time. Our perfumery note includes a suggested accord starting point and stability observations in eau de parfum and in an alkaline soap base.

Packaging, Storage and Transport

Packed in 1 kg amber glass bottles, 5 kg aluminium bottles and 25 kg plastic drums, sealed and labelled with lot number, assay, colour and production date. Packaging is chosen to exclude light, which is the main driver of colour drift in aromatic ketones.

Store between 5 and 25 degrees C, away from strong odours and light. Shipments leave within 7 to 15 working days with COA, IFRA relevant component statement and safety data sheet.

Quality Assurance and Documentation

Each batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis reporting assay, colour, odour evaluation, acid value, water, density and refractive index, plus the GC chromatogram. A 100 g retention sample is kept for 24 months.

We supply an IFRA relevant component listing, an allergen statement for the 26 declared fragrance allergens and a GHS safety data sheet. Third party GC-MS verification of the odour profile can be arranged on request.
