5-Bromo-1-Pentene 98% Organic Synthesis Grade CAS 1119-51-3 Clear Liquid

5-Bromo-1-pentene is a five-carbon chain with a bromide at one end and a double bond at the other. That makes it the cheapest way to bolt a four-carbon tether onto a molecule while keeping a terminal alkene for the next step. Most of what we ship goes into alkylations, Grignard chain extensions and palladium couplings where the customer wants to build the chain first and functionalise the alkene later.

This is our general synthesis grade. We distill in two passes and take the middle cut, because the tail fraction carries a dibromoalkane that shows up as a slow bleed on the GC and, more annoyingly, as a second alkylation product in the reactor. Colour is checked against APHA on every batch, and the drum is nitrogen padded before it leaves the plant.

Alkylation of amines, enolates and phenolates is the biggest use we see, followed by Grignard formation for chain extension and by Suzuki or Heck couplings where the bromide is the leaving group. Customers also use it to put a terminal alkene onto a silane, a phosphonate or a polymer backbone.

Charge it neat or as a solution in THF; it is heavier than water, so take the organic layer from the bottom during work up. Keep the addition rate moderate if you are generating the Grignard, since the reaction is exothermic at the start, and use a dry flask because traces of water hydrolyse the reagent.

1 kg amber glass for lab work, 25 kg plastic drum for pilot batches, 200 kg lined steel drum for production. Each container is labelled with batch number, assay, water and production date, and the drum is nitrogen padded at filling.

Store below 25 degrees C away from light and ignition sources; it is a flammable liquid, so the store needs the usual earthing and no-smoking rules. Sea freight from Shanghai, 7 to 15 days to most ports.

The COA carries assay, isomer and dibromoalkane levels, water, colour, density and refractive index, with the GC trace attached. We keep a 200 g sample of every batch for a year, so if something goes wrong in the reactor we can go back to the actual drum.
