High Purity 5-Bromo-1-Pentene 99.5% CAS 1119-51-3 Distilled Colour Stable

When the alkene end of 5-bromo-1-pentene is going into a polymer or a coupling that is sensitive to trace halide, the impurity profile matters more than the headline assay. We take this grade through a second distillation at lower pressure and cut tighter on both ends: the light cut removes residual starting alcohol, the heavy cut removes the dibromoalkane, and what is left is 99.5% with a colour that stays put.

The colour point is worth explaining. Bromoalkenes darken through slow elimination of HBr, and the resulting alkene oligomers are what turn a water-white liquid amber in a warm warehouse. Packing in amber glass or an opaque lined drum, plus a small amount of inhibitor, is what keeps this grade usable six months after the drum is opened instead of three weeks.

Polymer end capping and grafting is the main outlet for this grade, followed by fine chemical couplings where an isomeric bromide would give a mixed product, and by the preparation of alkene-terminated silanes, phosphonates and crosslinkers.

The inhibitor is there for storage only; if your initiator system is sensitive to phenolic compounds, strip it by passing the liquid through a short alumina plug before use. Do not store the material in clear glass on a sunny bench, which is the fastest way to undo the extra distillation.

Store below 25 degrees C, sealed and out of sunlight. Flammable liquid, flash point around 32 degrees C. Air and sea freight both fine, 7 to 15 days from Shanghai.

Every batch ships with the GC trace and a COA covering assay, isomer and dibromoalkane content, water, colour, inhibitor level, density and refractive index. A 100 g retention sample is kept for 18 months.
