1-Bromo-5-Fluoropentane 97% Synthesis Grade CAS 407-97-6 Clear Liquid Grade

1-Bromo-5-fluoropentane is a small molecule with two handles: a bromide that alkylates amines, phenols and enolates, and a fluorine at the far end that changes the lipophilicity and metabolic stability of whatever it gets attached to. Customers usually buy it because putting the fluorine on early is cheaper than fluorinating at the end of a long route.

We sell this as the working grade. 97% by GC is enough for most alkylation steps, and it keeps the price where a process chemist can use it in multi-hundred-gram batches without asking for approval. The main impurities are the usual ones from a halogen exchange, so we report the dibromo and difluoro levels on every COA rather than just the assay.

Alkylating amines and heterocycles is the main use, then phenol and enolate alkylation, and preparation of the Grignard or organolithium for chain extension. It also finds work as a fluorinated linker in materials chemistry where a terminal halogen needs to be installed on a spacer.

It is denser than water, so take the lower organic layer in the work up. Add it slowly to keep a local excess from forming, especially with secondary amines where double alkylation is easy. Use a dry flask if you plan to make the organometallic.

1 kg amber glass, 25 kg plastic drum, 200 kg lined steel drum. Every container carries batch number, assay, impurity levels and date, and the drum is nitrogen padded at filling.

Store below 25 degrees C, out of light, away from ignition sources. The material is a combustible halogenated liquid; use earthed containers when decanting. Sea freight from Shanghai, 7 to 15 days to most ports.

COA shows assay, dibromo and difluoro levels, water, colour, density and refractive index, with the GC trace attached. We keep 200 g of each batch for a year so a reactor problem can be checked against the actual drum.
