Corrosion Inhibitor Intermediate 1-Ethynyl-1-Cyclohexanol CAS 78-27-3 Acetylenic Alcohol

Acetylenic alcohols are the workhorse base for acid corrosion inhibitors. The triple bond adsorbs on steel and the hydroxyl keeps the molecule water dispersible, so a small addition slows acid attack on the pipe while leaving the scale removal rate alone. 1-Ethynyl-1-cyclohexanol is one of the standard building blocks for that chemistry.

This is the grade we supply to inhibitor blenders. It is not a finished inhibitor; it is the intermediate that gets reacted with an amine or an alkoxylate, or dissolved into a solvent package with a surfactant. What we control for that use is cyclohexanone, water and colour, because all three affect the clarity and the storage stability of the finished blend.

Base material for acid corrosion inhibitors used in well acidizing, coil tubing treatments and pickling baths, usually reacted with amines or alkoxylated to build the surface active part of the package.

Typical formulations run the acetylenic alcohol at 5 to 20% of the concentrate together with a surfactant and a solvent, then dose the concentrate at 0.1 to 1% of the acid. We can send a starting point formulation note if your lab is building a package from scratch.

25 kg fibre drum and 200 kg steel drum, both with a liner and nitrogen padded so the solid does not pick up moisture between filling and use.

Store below 25 degrees C, dry and sealed away from strong acids and oxidisers. Above 30 degrees C the material melts, so drums should stay upright in a shaded store.

COA with assay, cyclohexanone, water, melting point and colour of melt. A 250 g retention sample per lot is kept for 18 months.
