Analytical Grade HFIP CAS 920-66-1 NMR Spectroscopy Solvent High Purity

HFIP is a useful NMR solvent for proteins and for polymers that will not dissolve in anything more common, and it is a good UV cut off solvent for the far end of the spectrum. For both, what matters is that the blank is clean: no water peak drifting, no absorption rising in the region you are trying to measure.

This grade is checked for UV absorbance at 210, 230, 254 and 280 nm, water by Karl Fischer, and residue after evaporation. It is packed in small amber bottles under argon, because an analytical customer uses grams per week, not drums per month, and a bottle that has been open for a month is not the same solvent.

NMR solvent for polypeptides, fluoropolymers and hydrogen bonding studies, mobile phase modifier in reversed phase HPLC where a low pH and a fluorinated alcohol are both wanted, and solvent for UV and fluorescence measurements on sparingly soluble compounds.

Purge the bottle headspace with argon after each use and keep it in the dark. For NMR work, a sealed ampoule is worth the small extra cost if the sample queue runs over several weeks, since HFIP picks up water faster than most laboratory solvents.

100 mL and 500 mL amber fluorinated bottles with PTFE lined caps, argon blanketed and foam packed in cartons for air freight.

Store between 15 and 25 degrees C in the dark, under argon. Air freight is the normal route for these pack sizes.

COA with assay, water, UV absorbance at four wavelengths, residue, free fluoride and density, plus the GC trace. A retention sample per lot is kept for 24 months.

SDS and a UV spectrum of the lot are available on request, which is often useful when a method has to be transferred between laboratories.
