Pharmaceutical Grade HFIP CAS 920-66-1 Low Water Solvent for API Synthesis

Process chemists reach for HFIP when a reaction needs a polar, non nucleophilic, strongly hydrogen bond donating solvent. It accelerates epoxidations, stabilises cationic intermediates and dissolves hydrochloride salts that would otherwise sit on the bottom of the flask. In an API route, all of that is only useful if the solvent itself is clean and documented.

This grade is 99.9% with water at 100 ppm or below, free fluoride at 5 ppm, and a residue figure that will not embarrass you in a cleaning validation. The batch file carries the GC trace, water, fluoride, residue and a residual solvent statement, which is what a vendor qualification review asks for.

Epoxidation and oxidation steps, cationic cyclisation, peptide coupling where a strong hydrogen bond donor improves conversion, and dissolution of hydrochloride salts in place of a more aggressive acid.

Charge by weight rather than volume, since the density is high and the vapour pressure makes volume transfer lossy. Keep the reactor temperature below reflux where possible; HFIP at reflux with a strong acid present will slowly release fluoride.

1 kg fluorinated bottle, 25 kg drum and 200 kg drum on request, all nitrogen blanketed at filling and labelled with the water content at release.

Store below 25 degrees C, sealed under nitrogen, away from bases. Air freight for small packs, sea freight for drums from Shanghai.

COA with assay, water, free fluoride, residue, colour, density and refractive index, the GC trace and a residual solvent statement. A 100 g retention sample per lot is kept for 24 months.
