Low Fluoride HFIP CAS 920-66-1 Corrosion Safe Solvent for Metal Parts Cleaning

Free fluoride is the quiet failure mode with HFIP. It comes from slow hydrolysis, it rises with temperature and with every opening of the drum, and it attacks aluminium, copper alloys and glass. A customer who cleans aluminium parts and then sees a white bloom a week later has usually bought solvent with a fluoride figure nobody measured.

This grade is made with a scavenging step and a dry fill, and free fluoride is held under 2 ppm at release. It costs a little more than the technical grade and saves the argument with the customer who received stained parts.

• Water 300 ppm maximum: slow hydrolysis in storage, so the fluoride figure stays low
• Scavenged and dry filled: the low figure is designed in, not a lucky batch
• Suitable for glass lined reactors: no attack on the lining at process temperature
• Drums and cans: packing for cleaning lines and for laboratory trials
• Fluoride reported per lot: a number to put in the incoming inspection record

Cleaning and drying of aluminium and copper components, flux removal on assemblies with mixed metals, and use in glass lined reactors where a rising fluoride level would eventually damage the lining.

Keep the drum closed and the wash bath covered; both water ingress and evaporation raise the fluoride and the cost at the same time. If the bath is topped up repeatedly, check free fluoride monthly rather than relying on the certificate from the original drum.

25 kg fluorinated drum and 200 kg steel drum with a PE liner, dry filled and sealed. Lined steel is used for large packs because HFIP permeates HDPE over time.

Store below 30 degrees C, sealed and dry, away from bases. General cargo shipping; sea freight for drums, air for cans.

COA with assay, free fluoride, water, residue and colour, plus the GC trace. A 250 g retention sample per lot is kept for 24 months.

An ion chromatography report for fluoride and chloride is available on request, which is often what a customer needs when writing an incoming inspection specification.
