Diethyl Ether Ethylmagnesium Bromide 3.0M CAS 925-90-6 Classic Reagent

Some reactions simply go better in ether. The classic Grignard preparations, the ones in the older literature, were run in diethyl ether, and a few substrates still behave differently there because the solvation of the magnesium is different. If a route was developed in ether, transferring it to THF is a change, not a translation.

We supply 3.0 M in diethyl ether for those cases, titrated and filled under nitrogen. The solvent is anhydrous and peroxide free, which matters more here than in THF because ether peroxides are a well known hazard and they change the initiation behaviour.

The handling rules are stricter than for THF solutions: the flash point is far lower, the vapour is heavy and it pools at floor level, and a spill is a fire risk rather than a clean up job.

Classical Grignard additions where the literature route used ether, small scale synthesis in an academic or kilo lab setting, and preparation of ethyl magnesium reagents for reactions sensitive to THF coordination.

Work in a fume hood with earthed glassware and no ignition source within reach. Because ether vapour is heavier than air, check the floor level ventilation, and never let a bottle sit half full for months since the peroxide figure rises as the solvent evaporates.

500 mL and 1 L septum bottles, 20 L lined drum under nitrogen. Bottles ship in foam packed cartons with vermiculite.

Store between 5 and 20 degrees C under nitrogen, away from ignition sources and oxidisers. UN 3399 packaging; air freight for bottles only with the correct declaration.

COA with titrated molarity, chloride, ether peroxide, solvent water, appearance and turbidity. A retention sample per lot is kept for 9 months under nitrogen.

GHS SDS and a peroxide test report for the solvent lot are supplied. We recommend re-testing peroxide if a bottle has been open for more than three months.
