Testing gasoline for manganese means calibrating an AAS or ICP method against something whose manganese content is known by weight, not by area normalisation. This grade is assayed by GC for purity and by titration or ICP for manganese, and the certificate gives both, so a laboratory can build a calibration curve without re-characterising the standard.

It is also used as an identity reference when a fuel sample is being screened for additives, and as a retention time marker in GC methods. Purity is 99.9% with the impurities listed per lot, packed in amber glass under argon because both light and air change the material.

Prepare working standards in toluene or xylene, keep them at 4 to 8 degrees C in the dark, and prepare fresh solutions monthly. MMT in a dilute solution oxidises faster than the neat material, which is the usual cause of a calibration that drifts.
