Dithiothreitol (DTT) is een klein organisch reductiemiddel met de chemische formule C4H10O2S2. Het wordt voornamelijk gebruikt in de biotechnologie als eiwitsplitsingsreagens. De meest gebruikte synthesemethode van dithiothreitol is het gebruik van threitol als grondstof, deze eerst te oxideren met kaliumpermanganaat, vervolgens een thio-tussenproduct te verkrijgen onder invloed van thioazijnzuur en tenslotte het thio-tussenproduct te hydrolyseren om dithiothreitol te verkrijgen.
