Inleiding:
Het is een kleurloze tot lichtgele transparante vloeistof bij kamertemperatuur, met een dichtheid van 0,92 g/ml, een smeltpunt van -25°C, een kookpunt van 170-172°C (15 mmHg) en een vlampunt van >230°F. De brekingsindex n₂₀/D is 1,465.
Toepassingen:
N-Octylpyrrolidon (NOP) is een zeer efficiënt en selectief oplosmiddel dat kan worden gebruikt bij de terugwinning van organische grondstoffen, de raffinage van smeeroliën en als oplosmiddel voor polymeren en polymerisatiereacties; het wordt ook veel gebruikt bij de synthese van fijnchemicaliën zoals medicijnen, pesticiden, pigmenten, smaakstoffen en reinigingsmiddelen. Het is een zeer efficiënte, veilige, niet-toxische huidpenetrant, versneller, oppervlakteactieve stof en organisch synthetisch oplosmiddel.
