Pyrrolidine is een kleurloze tot lichtgele vloeistof met een ammoniakachtige geur, veel gebruikt in organische synthese toepassingen.
Productoverzicht
Pyrrolidine verschijnt als een kleurloze tot lichtgele vloeistof met een ammoniakachtige geur. Het is oneindig mengbaar met water en conventionele organische oplosmiddelen zoals methanol en chloroform. Het werkt als een traanverwekker.
Chemische Eigenschappen
Chemisch gezien gedraagt pyrrolidine zich in alle opzichten als een secundaire amine. Het ondergaat Leuckart-Wallach- en Mannich-reacties en wordt gemakkelijk omgezet in een enamine. In aanwezigheid van katalysatoren zoals platina bij 360°C of rhodium bij 650°C wordt pyrrool gevormd. Met koperkatalysatoren wordt N-methylpyrrolidon omgezet in N-methylpyrrolidine.
Industriële Toepassingen
Pyrrolidine is een ontvlambare alkalische vloeistof die reacties ondergaat die typisch zijn voor secundaire amines. Het wordt gebruikt om pesticiden en rubberversnellers te bereiden en dient als chemisch tussenproduct (meestal in hydrochloridevorm) in de farmaceutische industrie. Industriële blootstelling aan dit materiaal is relatief beperkt.
