Ralufon NAPE 14-90 type products are ammonium nonylphenol ethoxylate sulfates with fourteen ethylene oxide units and a nominal 90 percent active content. In acid zinc electrolytes this molecule does two jobs at once: the sulfated polyethylene oxide chain adsorbs on the cathode and levels the deposit, while the nonylphenol tail provides the surface activity that keeps hydrogen bubbles from adhering to the work, so pitting and dull patches are suppressed even on complex shaped
