Es existiert in drei isomeren Formen ∆d, L und Dl und erscheint als farblose bis hellgelbe Flüssigkeit.Es hat einen bitteren Geruch, der an Roquefortkäse erinnert (obwohl es bei geringen Konzentrationen ein angenehmes fruchtiges Aroma aufweist) und einen scharfen Geruch.Es ist geringlöslich in Wasser und Glycerin, aber löslich in Ethanol und Propylenglycol.
Verwendungszwecke:
Produktion von Zwischenprodukten für Schmierstoffe, Weichmacher, Parfüms und Duft-Estern.
