Vanillic acid is one of the active components of Picrorhiza scrophulariiflora. The structure of picrolide contains vanillic acid groups, ferulic acid groups, and cinnamoyl groups, which hydrolyze into vanillic acid, ferulic acid, and cinnamic acid. Vanillic acid serves as an antibacterial component of Picrorhiza scrophulariiflora, and measuring its vanillic acid content can serve as an indicator for assessing the quality of Picrorhiza scrophulariiflora.
