2-Methyltetrahydrofuran is the solvent a process chemist switches to when THF becomes a problem. It is made from renewable feedstock, it has a much higher flash point, and it separates from water more cleanly, which matters when the quench produces a brine layer that will not split. The trade off is that Grignard formation and stability in 2-MeTHF differ slightly from THF, so the solution has to be made and titrated rather than diluted from a THF stock. Ours is prepared
