Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) is a nitrogen-containing phosphate, appearing as a white powder. Based on its degree of polymerization, ammonium polyphosphate can be classified into three types: oligomer, medium-polymer, and high-polymer. The higher the degree of polymerization, the lower the water solubility. Crystalline ammonium polyphosphate is a water-insoluble, long-chain polyphosphate. It has five variants, from type I to type V.
