Introduction:
Stannous chloride, chemical formula SnCl2, is also called tin dichloride. There are anhydrous and hydrated forms. Stannous chloride can be used as a reducing agent in the manufacture of dye intermediates. It is a component of ultra-high pressure lubricating oils. It is used as a bleaching agent. It is used for the sensitization of mercury plating in mirror making. The silver film formed has good brightness and the mercury is firmly bonded to the product. It is used in the electroplating industry for tin plating and copper-tin plating of mechanical parts. It is used for chemical book sensitization during ABS plastic electroplating to prevent the coating from falling off. It is also used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, as a catalyst for organic synthesis, and as an activator for the vulcanization of butyl rubber products. It is a mordant during dyeing and a dye resist in the printing discharge process. It is a stabilizer in the spice industry. It is a food reducing agent and antioxidant, such as canned asparagus and pineapple juice.
