Introduction:

 

Bromocresol green is also known as 3,3',5,5'-tetrabromo-m-cresolsulfonylphthalide and γ-Sultone. It is precipitated from acetic acid as fine light yellow crystals. Relative molecular weight 698.05. Melting point 218-219℃. It is very sensitive to alkali and shows a special blue-green color when it encounters alkaline aqueous solution. Bromocresol green can be used as an indicator. It is yellow when pH=3.8 and blue-green when pH=5.4.

 

Uses:

 

Used as cell stain, acid-base indicator, pH color change range 3.8 (yellow) ~ 5.4 (blue-green).
