Introduction:
Myristic acid is also called tetradecanoic acid. Crystallized from methanol is a white crystalline or leaflet-shaped waxy solid. It has a faint waxy and milky aroma. It exists naturally in fish oil, coconut oil, babassu oil and cottonseed oil. Relative density 0.8439 (80°C). Melting point 58°C. Boiling point 250.5°C (13.3 kPa, 100 mmHg). Refractive index 1.4305 (60°C). Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol.
Uses:
It is mainly used as a raw material for producing surfactants, such as sorbitan fatty acid esters, glycerol fatty acid esters, ethylene glycol or propylene glycol fatty acid esters, etc. It can also be used to produce isopropyl myristate, etc. It is also used as a defoamer and flavor enhancer. It is used to make emulsifiers, waterproofing agents, curing agents, polyvinyl chloride heat stabilizers and plasticizers, etc. It is also a raw material for spices and medicines.
