Introduction:

 

Glutaric anhydride is a beige to light brown crystalline powder at room temperature and pressure, has strong water absorption, and is easily deliquesced and deteriorated to generate acidic substances after absorbing water. Since glutaric anhydride contains two carbonyl groups, it is easily reduced to the corresponding alcohol and has certain reducibility. Although glutaric anhydride does not directly absorb water, it can undergo a hydrolysis reaction to generate the corresponding dicarboxylic acid. In order to maintain the stability of glutaric anhydride and prevent it from absorbing water, it is usually necessary to store glutaric anhydride in a closed, dry environment and avoid exposing it to air or a humid environment.

 

 

Uses:

 

Used in the production of plastics, rubber, resin, medicine, etc. and the preparation of amides. Valeric anhydride can be oxidized with hydrogen peroxide to obtain peroxyglutaric acid. Mix 420ml of distilled water and 221.7g of 30% hydrogen peroxide, then add 342g of glutaric anhydride, stir vigorously, maintain the reaction at 15℃, add 7.6g of hydrogen peroxide and continue to keep warm for 1 hour, let it stand for 24h, filter out the crystals, wash with water and dry with an infrared lamp to obtain a white powdery peroxide diacid with a melting point of 89-90℃ (decomposition begins at 90℃).
