Technical Grade HFIP Solvent 99% CAS 920-66-1 Industrial Cleaning Liquid

HFIP is a small fluorinated alcohol that behaves like nothing else in the solvent cabinet. It dissolves polar polymers, it wets fluoropolymers that nothing else wets, and it evaporates cleanly at 59 degrees C, so a part comes out dry instead of needing a second wash. The catch is that it is not cheap, which is why it is used where the performance justifies the price.

This is our technical grade for cleaning, stripping and general industrial use. It is 99% with water held low enough that it will not attack acid sensitive parts, and it is sold in drums rather than bottles because most of the volume goes into cleaning lines and polymer work, not into a laboratory.

• Low water: no acid formation that would etch aluminium or attack sensitive alloys
• Dissolves polar polymers: removes flux, adhesive and coating residues that IPA will not touch
• Wets fluoropolymers: cleans PTFE and PVDF parts that resist ordinary solvents
• Drums from stock: 25 kg and 200 kg ship within a week

Precision cleaning of metal, glass and fluoropolymer parts, stripping of flux and adhesive residues, carrier solvent for coatings on plastic substrates, and cleaning of optical assemblies where a water rinse is not wanted.

It is heavier than water and miscible with it, so keep the wash tank dry and cap the drum between uses. Vapour pressure is high at room temperature, so use a lid or a fume hood; the material itself is not flammable, which makes it easier to justify on a production floor than an alcohol or ketone.

25 kg fluorinated HDPE drum and 200 kg steel drum with a PE liner. Lined steel is used for the large packs because HFIP will slowly permeate the wrong plastic.

Store below 30 degrees C, sealed, in a ventilated area away from strong bases. Ship as non hazardous general cargo; air freight is available for small volumes.

COA with assay, water, free fluoride, non volatile residue, colour and density, plus the GC trace. A 200 g retention sample per batch is kept for 24 months.

GHS SDS in the current format is issued with the first order. A residue analysis after evaporation can be supplied for cleaning validation files.
