Introductie:
Bleekgele vaste stof, smeltpunt lager dan anthrachinon, oplosbaar in benzeen, kan worden herkristalliseerd uit ethanol of azijnzuur, smeltpunt 108℃.
Gebruik:
Het wordt in een oplosmiddel gehydrogeneerd om 2-ethylhydroanthrachinon te genereren, en vervolgens opnieuw geoxideerd om 2-ethylanthrachinon en waterstofperoxide te genereren. Deze reactie wordt in de industrie gebruikt om waterstofperoxide te produceren. Het wordt bereid door de Friedel-Crafts-reactie van ftaalzuuranhydride en ethylbenzeen, en kan ook worden bereid door de Diels-Alder-dieensynthese en de dehydrogeneringsreactie van 1,4-naftochinon en 2-ethyl-1,3-butadieen.
