はじめに:
酸化銅(I)、化学式Cu₂O。分子量143.08。深紅色立方晶または橙黄色の結晶性粉末で、毒性がある。天然では赤銅鉱として存在する。乾燥空気中では安定しているが、湿った空気中では徐々に酸化銅に酸化される。水およびエタノールには不溶であるが、希硫酸に溶解すると不均化を起こし、硫酸銅と金属銅を生成する。硝酸に溶解すると硝酸銅に酸化される。濃塩酸またはアンモニア水溶液に溶解すると、それぞれ安定な錯体H₃[CuCl₄]または無色の配位イオン[Cu(NH₃)₂]⁺を生成する。
用途:
酸化銅(I)は、赤色ガラス、赤色磁器釉薬、セラミックスの製造における着色剤（赤色）として、農作物の殺菌剤として、整流器材料として、船底塗料として使用される。また、電気めっき産業や有機合成触媒としても利用される。酸化銅(I)は、アゾ化合物中の窒素を定量するための還元剤としても使用できる。
