Introduction:
Glyoxylic acid, also known as formic acid, hydrated glyoxylic acid, and oxoacetic acid, has a chemical formula of C2H203. It is the simplest aldehyde acid and exists in immature fruits, tender green leaves, and sugar beets. Crystallized from water is a monoclinic crystal (containing 1/2 crystal water). The relative molecular mass is 70.04. The melting point is 98°C. It exists in a hydrated form in aqueous solution.
Uses:
1. Glyoxylic acid is the simplest keto acid (aldehyde acid), which has the properties of both acid and aldehyde. It is used as a raw material for varnish, an intermediate for spices, medicines, dyes, plastics and household chemicals.
2. It is used as a fragrance and fixative for cosmetics and for pharmaceuticals
