Introduction:
Bromothymol blue is an acid-base indicator with a color change range of pH 6.0 (yellow) to 7.6 (blue). Ordinary water is neutral, with a pH of about 7, which is almost light green. Bromothymol blue is a colorless or light rose crystalline powder, which is easily soluble in alcohol, dilute alkaline solution and ammonia water, and slightly soluble in water. It turns yellow in acidic conditions and blue in alkaline conditions.
Uses:
• pH indicator - has a precise color transition when near neutral, yellow when acidic, blue when alkaline.
• Stains - track the movement of lymph under the microscope, identify cell walls or nuclei
• Culture medium components - in agar gel Chemicalbook culture medium, used for Bacillus cereus counts; as bacterial growth components and detection substrates, such as cystine/lactose/electrolyte deficiency
• BTB paper method - emergency determination of whole blood cholinesterase activity, used for the judgment of organophosphate poisoning.
