Introductie:
Het verschijnt als een donkergroen tot bruin kristallijn poeder, met een dichtheid van 0,981 g/mL bij 25 °C en een smeltpunt van 230 °C (ontl.) (lit.). De natriumzoutvorm is oplosbaar in water. Als anionische kleurstof wordt het vaak gebruikt als pH-indicator, met een kleurveranderingsbereik van pH 3,8–5,4; het deprotoneert om een gele verbinding te vormen onder zure omstandigheden en vormt een blauw dianion onder alkalische omstandigheden.
Toepassingen:
Natriumbromocresolgroen is een anionische kleurstof. Natriumbromocresolgroen kan worden gebruikt voor pH-indicatie en DNA-agarosegelelektroforese. Natriumbromocresolgroen kan ook worden gebruikt voor de meting van mammale albumine. Onder zure omstandigheden deprotoneert natriumbromocresolgroen en bestaat als een monovalente anion, geel van kleur; onder alkalische omstandigheden bestaat het als een divalente anion, blauw van kleur.
