オクタデカンアミンは有機合成の中間体として使用され、オクタデカン四級アミン塩や、カチオン性グリースの増粘剤、鉱物選鉱剤、農薬、アスファルト乳化剤、織物の帯電防止剤、柔軟剤、湿潤剤、防水剤、界面活性剤、殺菌剤、カラーフィルム用着色剤、石油精製装置用の腐食抑制剤などの様々な添加剤を製造するために使用されます。オクタデシルジエタノールアミンとエチレンオキシドをモル比1:2で組み合わせ、150〜190℃で反応させると、オクタデシルジエタノールアミンを収率ほぼ80％で得ることができます。オクタデシルジエタノールアミンは非イオン性帯電防止剤であり、ポリプロピレン、ポリスチレン、ABS樹脂に使用できます。
