Introduction:
Alkyl trimethyl ammonium salt type cationic surfactants are prepared by reacting higher fatty amines with methyl chloride in the presence of sodium hydroxide. This type of surfactant has a structure of a long-chain alkyl or hydrocarbon group (usually 8 to 22 carbon atoms) and three short-chain alkyl groups (1 to 7 carbon atoms), such as 1231 (dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride), 1431 (tetradecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride), 1631 (hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride), and 1831 (octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride). This surfactant is easily soluble in water, transparent, and has good surface activity.
Uses:
It can be used as an antistatic agent for external coating of shampoo, bactericidal detergent, polystyrene resin, etc., an antistatic agent for fibers, a leveling agent, a demulsifier and a dispersant, etc.
