Introduction:
Sodium polyacrylate is a white powder. It is odorless and tasteless. It is extremely hygroscopic. It is a polymer compound with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. It dissolves slowly in water to form a very viscous, transparent liquid. The viscosity of its 0.5% solution is approximately Pa•s. Its viscosity is not due to water absorption and swelling (like CMC or sodium alginate), but rather due to the ionic phenomenon of many anionic groups within the molecule, which causes the molecular chain to lengthen, resulting in increased viscosity and the formation of a highly viscous solution. Its viscosity is approximately 15-20 times that of CMC and sodium alginate. Heat treatment, neutral salts, and organic acids have little effect on its viscosity, while alkalinity increases its viscosity. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. It does not decompose when heated strongly to 300 degrees Celsius. Its viscosity changes very little during prolonged storage, and it is not easily spoiled. Because it is an electrolyte, it is easily affected by acids and metal ions, which reduce its viscosity.
Uses:

Used as a corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor, water stabilizer, paint thickener and water retention agent, flocculant, drilling fluid treatment agent, etc.
